What is Scrip?
Scrip is a term which means "Substitute" for money.  In the case of the Scrip program, the substitute is a gift certificate from the participating merchant.  These gift certificates are the same certificates normally issued by the participating store.

How does the Scrip program work?
The National Scrip Center, a non-profit organization, buys millions of dollars of gift certificates from national retailers on a 'cash up front basis".  The huge volume purchased entitles them to a discount.  Hampton Christian then purchases the gift certificates from the National Scrip Center at a discounted price.  Families simply buy Scrip to purchase items they would normally buy, such as groceries, clothing, meals at restaurants, and other retail goods...there no need to spend extra for this fundraiser.  Your regular, everyday participation directly benefits the school and you!

How does the gift certificate work in the store?
The gift certificates you purchase through HCS will be handled just like any gift certificate you would have purchased in the store.  There's no difference.

How can my purchases make a difference in this program?
Every percentage point helps.  Certainly, if we have to depend on the purchasing power of a few this program won't achieve it's potential.  But it is the number that we as a school represent that will make this program work.  Everyone can help and no one person or small percentage of our group has to carry the weight of fundraising on their shoulders.  Here's an example of the impact of all of our families working together in this program.

How do I participate in the Scrip program?
When you want Scrip, simply fill out your order form indicating what you would like and send it to the school with a check made out to the school.  You may come to the school office and pay or send your paid order to school with your child.

When I order Scrip, how will I get the certificates back?
Sign the release form to allow us to send your Scrip home with your child.  The gift certificates are the same as cash.  If you prefer, you may pick up your Scrip personally in the school office.  If we do not have a release form, your Scrip will be held in the school office.

What's the catch?
That's just it... there isn't one!!  Everyone wins with this program.  The advantages include

You don't pay extra for using Scrip, unlike buying candy or magazine.  The profit comes from the regular spending your family does every month for items like groceries, clothes, and restaurant dinners.
Many families who have used Scrip say that having a set amount of certificates for each shopping trip has helped to control their spending and made them aware of the pitfalls that make them overspend their budgets.
Scrip takes the fundraising out of the children's hands and allows the parents to take the responsibility for raising the money needed.  Our children will not be going door to door.
The merchants like this program because there is no bad debt, immediate increased cash flow, reduced advertising costs, wonderful public relations, additional purchases, new customers, old customer loyalty, and the money stays in the local community.

Everybody wins... our school, the participating retailers, and, most importantly, our children!!!
